Believing her to be asleep
I risked the words that seemed to keep
A constant drum-beat in my heart.
Still fresh; I still felt Cupid’s dart,
A nagging deep inside of me
To share a truth and so set free
The gratitude and hope I felt.
In only three short words I dealt
With everything that wrapped and neat
Expressed my joy from head to feet.
Imagine my surprise when she
Sat up in bed and turned to me
(Her eyes were wet and glowing blue)
We kissed. She’d said; “I love you too.”
